Even in health and fitness, having a plan for success is NECESSARY. The first step in creating your plan is to establish your goals.
Your goals should be so specific and so crystal clear that you can close your eyes and step right into your dream.
These goals should be so detailed that you can see, feel, taste, hear, and smell what your life will look like when you've achieved your goals.
3 STEPS TO DEFINE YOUR GOALS & CREATE YOUR PERSONAL VISION
Below is my three step process for setting badass goals and creating a vivid personal vision of the life you're creating.
INSTRUCTIONS: Take 20 MINUTES to go sit in a quiet or inspiring place. All you need is a pen and paper...and your thoughts.
#1 DEFINING YOR GOALS.
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE?
What are your personal fit goals? What are your weight loss or health goals?
Is your goal to lose body fat? Want to get lean? Build lean muscle? Lose weight? Tone up? Get in shape to run a 5K or a marathon?
Lower your cholesterol or blood pressure? Have more energy? Break a sugar addiction?
DIG DEEP INSIDE AND DREAM BIG! WHAT IS IT THAT YOU WANT?
BRAINSTORM: DON'T LIMIT YOURSELF! ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you have ever dreamed of doing, wanted to have, wished for, or hoped for...write it down.
DON'T WORRY ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT YOU THINK YOU CAN DO IT.
Let it all flow out of your head and heart and onto your paper.
THINK ABOUT HOW BEING FIT AND HAPPY WILL AFFECT ALL ASPECTS OF YOUR LIFE:
HEALTH, FAMILY, SOCIAL LIFE, RELATIONSHIPS, SPIRITUALITY, PERSONAL GROWTH, CAREER, ETC.
S.M.A.R.T. GOALS: SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, ACHIEVABLE, REALISTIC-RELEVANT, TIMELY.
Once you've brainstormed your goals, edit them so they're S.M.A.R.T. goals.
GOAL: "Lose weight."
S.M.A.R.T. GOAL: "Lose 3 inches off my waist in 13 weeks" or "Lose 10 lbs of fat in 13 weeks."
The S.M.A.R.T. GOALS are SPECIFIC (losing a certain amount of weight or inches), MEASURABLE (able to measure the starting point, progress, and end result, ACHIEVABLE (this can be done!), REALISTIC-RELEVANT (10 lb. fat loss in 13 weeks is realistic, 10 lb. fat loss in 3 weeks is NOT realistic!), and TIMELY (we set a realistic goal timeline of 13 weeks).
#2 CREATE YOUR VISION.
HOW WILL YOUR LIFE LOOK?
Imagine your dream future and create a VIVID image of the life you'd like to lead.
THIS IS YOUR PERSONAL VISION. THIS IS YOUR MANTRA!
What does this life look like? How do you dream of spending your days? Where will you go and what will you do that you haven't done before?
Put as much clarity around this life as you can!
GET LOST IN THE DETAILS.
Write down what this lifestyle looks like and feels like.
MAKE YOUR VISION COME TO LIFE. MAKE IT REAL.
#3 KNOW YOUR MOTIVATION.
WHAT IS YOUR WHY? WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?
WHAT IS YOUR WHY? WHAT MOVES YOU? INSPIRES YOU? DRIVES YOU?
Why do you do what you do? What is the force behind you? What is your intention?
WHO ARE YOU DOING THIS FOR?
Who do you want to make proud? Who is going to push you when it gets hard?
Yes, this should be for you, but who else do you want to make proud? Who else do you want to inspire and show that it's possible? What life events do you want to be healthy and fit to be able to see/attend? Travel the world? See your children get married? Meet your grandchildren? See your grandchildren get married?
- VISION BOARD: After you establish your goals, create your vision, and know your motivation, create a vision board to keep your personal vision vivid and alive.
- PLAN OF ACTION: Create your written plan of action to achieve your goals.
- GET AFTER IT: Put the work in! Implement your plan of action, keep your mindset on your goals, and take it one day at a time. This is all it takes!
